Overview
- DistrictPRO was developed to automate the process of keeping current a school district's web site. Because of the massive amounts of information that the district relays to Students, Parents, and the Community, the task of using the web site as an Up-To-Date tool becomes a full-time job for 1 or more staff members. It is PII's belief that it is more productive and easier to have a large number of people responsible for a small amount of information than it is to have a small number of people responsible for a large amount of information. In addition, DistrictPRO was developed so that staff members can post their information immediately without waiting for someone else to get time to post the information to the web.
Key Features
- Calendar : Calendar Events are either entered for the District or for the Individual Departments. Calendars can be viewed in several formats :
- Daily Events (List format)
- Weekly Events (List format)
- Monthly Events (Table and List format)
- Monthly Events by Department(Table and List format)
Main Events can also be entered on Static Web Pages for Yearly Views (such as Graduation Dates and Holidays)
- Career Opportunites : A Job Listing for the District that allows the Human Relations department (or any staff member that has access to post Career Opportunites) to post jobs with View-Start and View-End dates. This allows listings to be posted prior to them being viewable by the public and having them become viewable at the View-Start date. Likewise, they will no longer appear once the View-End date has been reached.
- Communications : This is the Community Relations section for automated informational releases to the public. The sections include :
- News Releases (automated View-Start and View-End listing of simple text entries used to diplay individual New Releases)
- Newsletter (automated View-Start an View-End listing of a file newletter that has been uploaded)
- Calendar (On-Line Calendar for the district)
- Contact : Three separate forms that individuals can submit or request information to the Site Administrators:
- WebMaster (sends a formatted e-mail to the designated webmaster regarding Site Issues)
- Information Request (sends a formatted e-mail to the designated individual regarding Information Issues)
- Calendar Event(sends a formatted e-mail to the designated calendar administrator regarding Posted Events)
- Curriculum & Instruction : A listing of Information Links to static web pages which contain General and Specific Guidelines that the District uses for it's Curriculum Development and Instructional Programs.
- District Departments : The Navigation Bar is automatically updated with Department Information based on the nformation in the database. As New departments are added (Top Level or Level-0), they appear in the navigation bar. Each department has control over their own information and personnel. An active Departmental Calender exists to maintain the current events for the department. Links to personnel E-Mails, Phone Numbers, Personal Web Pages, File Uploads, and a link to the Department Web-Site or E-Mail are also controlled. A Staff Locator is also used to search the Active Staff Database for specific matches of staff members (entire departments can be listed as well).
- General Information : This is an area set up for Static Web pages so that authorized staff members can post files that do not necessarily need to be updated often.
- Home Page : The Weekly Schedule of events for the district (excluding Departmental Events) is displayed for the current day as well as for the next 6 days.
- Instructional Resources : A listing of Information Links to static web pages which contain Learning and Teaching Aides to assist Students, Parents, and Faculty.
- Marquee : A scrolling Marquee at the top of the screen displays important information about events going on within the district. Staff personnel can enter a Unique Message with start and end dates, or simply choose from a set of Pre-Defined messages to be displayed on the Marquee.
- Message Board : A Dynamic Message Board (or Bulletin Board) used to communicate information to the public. Authorized staff members can post text messages regarding current affairs or objects of interest to a publicly accessible area.
- Policies & Procedures : A listing of Information Links to static web pages (because these don't change very often) which contain information for Students, Parents, and Faculty members regarding the District Policies & Procedures.
- School Listings : Schools are broken down in the standard divisions, but these divisions are dictated by the district personnel. Divisions can be added, modified, or deleted, and schools are assigned to each division. The listing of divisions in the Side Navigation Bar is automatically pulled from the database on the server. By selecting a division, a listing of each school (along with school and school web information) is listed in a easy to navigate format.
- School Meals : This section is broken down into 2 parts : School Meal Schedule and Meal Prices. The Prices page is a simple Static (not database driven) web page that lists the prices for each category of meal. The Schedule page is a Database-Driven page that pulls the active information from a database that staff personnel have entered. Single Dates and Weekly schedules can be viewed from this screen through navigation inputs from the browser. The Menu also has the ability to display a Quick-Glance picture of the type of meat used in the meal. For instance, if Beef Ravioli is in the meal description, a small picture of a Cow is shown next to the meal listing.
- Search Engine : A Live Search for either information on the site or a Staff Locator.
